Thurrock Council operates a Choice Based lettings system in order to allocate properties.
This means that applicants have more choice over the properties allocated to them, and involves “bidding” for a property of the applicants’ choice.
Available properties are advertised on a weekly cycle, and applicants are able to bid for a property that meets their assessed need.
At the end of the cycle the top bidder is usually offered the property, provided they meet the criteria and can evidence the information they have provided in their application.
It is important to note that it is still the responsibility of the Council to make a final judgment on whether or not it is appropriate to allocate a certain property to a particular applicant. Therefore, being the top bidder does not automatically guarantee that the property is offered to the applicant.
