Who can use the service

Before you can bid for properties you must be registered on Thurrock Councils Housing list – See Housing Register and Transfer List for more information.  Once registered you will receive a letter from Thurrock Choice Homes informing you of your bidding reference number and the band that you have been placed in.  You will also be advised of the size of property you can bid for.

Please keep your registration letter safe.  You will need this information to use Thurrock Choice Homes.

Only active applicants can bid. If your application is suspended for any reason you will not be able to bid for properties. When you log onto your home page, you will be able to see if your application is suspended.

Priority Bands

Thurrock Council has a legal duty to give priority to households with particular housing needs.  To ensure that this duty is fulfilled all applicants are placed in Bands according to their housing needs.

The policy governing how the bands are determined is known as the Allocations Policy and can be accessed on the Councils website.

An applicant’s priority can change depending on their circumstances.  Where a priority is awarded this will be time limited and will be monitored by the Thurrock Choice Homes team.

Transitional Arrangements

Prior to the introduction of Thurrock Choice Homes, the council operated a policy of allocating only flats and maisonettes to first time council tenants.

Houses under this policy would be offered to existing tenants only.  In order to honour our commitment to tenants who have been waiting many years for a house, the council agreed that 50% of all houses that become vacant will be offered to existing tenants who registered to transfer prior to 1st January 2004.

This scheme will operate until 1st June 2010 and is available to Transfer Applicants assessed in the Bronze band, who registered to Transfer before 1st January 2004.
