Housing associations

Partner landlords – Housing Associations

Often called Registered Social Landlords, Housing Associations develop and manage affordable housing using a mixture of government and private sector funding.

 

When Housing Associations properties are let on a permanent basis it is by means of an Assured Tenancy. This type of tenancy confers rights and responsibilities that are very similar to a local authority secure tenancy.

 

Please note that the ‘Right to Buy’ only applies to secure tenancies on local authority properties.

Where Council tenants are nominated to Housing Associations they should be aware that they must give the correct notice on their Council property and they will remain liable for the rent until the notice period expires.  If the tenant is in receipt of Housing Benefit they should contact the Housing Benefit department on 01375 652950 for more information.
