If you were a secure tenant before 18 January 2005 you can, after two years, apply to buy your home under the 'Right to Buy'.
If you become a Council or Housing Association tenant for the first time on or after 18 January 2005 you must have been a tenant for at least five years to be eligible to buy your home.
