Right to buy

Right to Buy and Right to Acquire

If you were a secure tenant before 18 January 2005 you can, after two years, apply to buy your home under the 'Right to Buy'.

 

If you become a Council or Housing Association tenant for the first time on or after 18 January 2005 you must have been a tenant for at least five years to be eligible to buy your home.

Housing Association tenants may also be able to buy their home under the 'Right to Acquire' but certain rules apply. For more information contact you landlord
